The Greer Municipal Court is located at 1306 West Poinsett Street, and is part of the statewide unified court system. The Municipal Judge, Henry J. Mims is appointed by the Council of the City of Greer. The Court is responsible for warrants, arraignments, and the adjudication of cases. In addition to hearing cases, the Judge serves in a supervisory capacity over assistant judges and administrative judges.
The Municipal Court is one of limited jurisdiction, hearing only misdemeanor criminal cases, and traffic cases carrying a maximum fine and sentence of five hundred dollars or thirty days in jail.
A recent legislative change gave Municipal courts concurrent jurisdiction with the Court of General Sessions to hear certain driving-under-suspension cases that carry sentences in excess of thirty days. This Court has no civil-jurisdiction; no lawsuits or non-criminal matters are heard. Appeals for decisions received from this Court are accepted in Circuit Court.
This court strives to give everyone a fair hearing. We have improved our technology and increased access to the court. Our community can be proud of the friendly and helpful staff of clerks and administrative judges at their service.
